THIS WEEK IN THE BIG 12
TWITBIG12 PROGNOSTICATIONS
NCAA TOURNAMENT PROSPECTS
| Team | Next Game | How Far Can They Go? |
|---|---|---|
| TEXAS | March 21st - UNC Asheville/Texas Southern winner. | The Longhorns received a number 1 seed amidst controversy since they did not win the Big 12 regular season nor the Big 12 Tournament. However, they did play a tough non-conference schedule and beat Oklahoma twice. So who could stop Texas? The first tough test will probably be LSU. The Tigers have been playing well as of late and beat Arizona earlier in the year. If they get past the second round, the regionals are in San Antonio. A possible Sweet 16 matchup could be defending champ, Maryland, then they would possibly have to beat Florida to get to the Final Four. With the regionals in San Antonio, the twit sees the Longhorns making it to the Final Four but not winning the tournament. |
| KANSAS | March 20th - Utah State. |
Yes, Kansas may have been slighted getting a number 2 seed and yes, Kansas may be in the toughest bracket, but they did lose 7 games. That's quite a few losses for a number 1 seed and looking at their season as a whole, maybe they didn't deserve it. They now need to turn their attention to their first tough test which will probably be Memphis. Memphis is a very tough 7 seed and beat Illinois and Syracuse, so they will not be intimidated by Kansas. In fact, this could be a tougher game than a possible Sweet 16 matchup against Duke. The twit sees the Jayhawks' senior leadership pulling them through to the Elite 8, but no further. |
| OKLAHOMA | March 20th - South Carolina State. | The Sooners won the Big 12 Tournament to get the number 1 seed, but they got banged up in the process. Hollis Price needs to be fully ready if the Sooners are to make a second consecutive run to the Final Four. The Sooners shouldn't be tested until the Sweet Sixteen where they could possibly face Mississippi State who beat them earlier in the year. This would be a tough matchup for the Sooners since Mississippi State could expose them inside. If they get past the Bulldogs, a matchup against Syracuse in Albany, NY, could be a possibility. The twit thinks that's too stiff a challenge for the Sooners, since they may not have enough offense, especially with it basically being a home game for the Orangemen. |
| MISSOURI | March 20th - Southern Illinois. | The Tigers are starting to look like the team that made the run to the Elite 8 last year. They showed true grit in the Big 12 Tournament barely losing to OU. Arthur Johnson and Travan Bryant are starting to become a true tandem of enforcers inside and Ricky Paulding is showing the consistency the Tigers need. The bad news is Ricky Clemons has been in a slump. They have the talent to make another Elite 8 run and give Kentucky a scare if they were to get that far. The bad news is they could lose to Southern Illinois in the first round if they aren't careful. The twit sees the Tigers beating Southern Illinois and Marquette, then losing against Pittsburgh with Brandon Knight being too tough to handle. |
| COLORADO | March 21st - Michigan State. | The Buffaloes are more talented than the Spartans and have a great shot at beating the Spartans and even giving Florida a battle in the second round; however, they were lucky to beat Kansas State in the Big 12 Tournament. Considering their inconsistency, the twit sees first time jitters for the Buffaloes and a loss in the first round. |
| OKLAHOMA STATE | March 21st - Penn. | Oklahoma State did not end the season very well finishing 3-7 in their last 10. Many see Penn in an upset here, but the Cowboys still play great defense and the twit thinks the Cowboys will have enough offense to take care of the Quakers. Syracuse would probably be next and the Cowboys don't have enough offense to hang with the Orangemen. |
