Stonefly
The Stone fly Nymph (plecoptera) is an interesting insect. It has some very common predators such as the trout, bass, and other game fish. Many of the species are voracious carnivores. Also some of the species of stoneflies nibble on buds and leaves. One species,Taeniopteryx (Brachypetra) Pacifia, has been reported to be a pest of fruit and trees in the Northwest. They must have pure, well-aerated water in their habitat. They are usually identified by their two pairs of wings , 2 antennae and 2 tails. When they are in the nymph stage, you can see the 2 wing cases. They have 3 pairs of legs. They have gills and fringes of hair that make the legs more efficient swimming organs. The adults often look like sticks in the water when their wings are folded up by their body.
