Vascular: Having veins or arteries. Any tube-shaped structure that transports liquids. Vein: In animals, a blood vessel that carries blood to the heart from other parts of the body. In plants, a strand of vascular tissue. Ventral: Referring to the underside, or belly of an organism, typically for vertebrates. Vertebra: One of several bones that comprise the vertebral column, or backbone, in vertebrates. The Plural form of vertebra is vertebrae (pronounced verteBREE). Vertebral Column: Another name for the backbone. Vertebrate: Any animal that has a vertebral column. Contrasted with invertebrate. Vegetal pole: In a developing blastula, the end that has the higher concentration of yolk. Viscera: The organs of the body contained in the abdomen, such as the intestines, stomach, and liver. Volcano: A naturally occuring vent on the Earth's surface where molten rock, or magma, along with gaseous materials is ejected. |
